Xbox DID only sell 100k more units than the ps3 - howerver, that was the first 6 months of 2009. NOT as you reported the last 12 months.
PS3 reduced the xbox's lead from launch to 5.5 million consoles by July 2008. However, this lead has now increased to roughly 8.3 million in July/August 2009.
If the xbox only sold 100k more units in the last 6 months, then it must have sold at least over 2 million more units than the PS3 in the last 12 months.
